Every year on the first Saturday in May we attend the Rose City Quilters Tote and Gloat show here in Palmerston North - it is a total immersion quilt day. For the last seven years we have sponsored the show by donating a Husqvarna Sewing machine - Emerald 183 - which is won by a lucky number draw - all you have to do is wear your ticket and come to the show - this year the lucky number was 006 and the winner was Felicty Ellison- can you After she received her new sewing machine she walked off the stage and presented it to her friend Nola Slack, who was absolutely delighted with such a generous gift - On Monday she spent the day at The Cloth Shop learning all the ins and outs of her new Emerald.
She loves it!!
Another winner at Tote and Gloat
Each year at Tote and Gloat Rose City Quilters issues a challenge for its members - this year the challenge was to be inspired by a page from a chidren's book.
Liz won first prize in the Novice section for her quilt
and
Amiee won second prize in the Intermediate Section for her quilt
Sudoku kits - clever and fun!
First of all you need to complete the puzzle.........These are very clever little quilt kits. Each pack has nine 5" squares of nine different fabrics - 81 square in all and a Sudoku puzzle. First lof all you finish the puzzle and then you use it as a pattern to make your quilt. The photo featured here is Oasis - a soft pretty range - we also have Perennials - a darl contemporary collour scheme - by Moda. We quilted our quilt with Superior Rainbow threads.
Sudoku boxed kits are $60.00 (this does not include the sashing) and Rainbow thread are $21.00 each.

This Sunday we have a class with Griet Lombard
Griet is creative and inspiring!
- this is the first of her series of classes at The Cloth Shop for 2011 - she calls it Corded wall hanging. It has a ethnic look about it and she will show you the different techniques she used to make it. Machine made cords, handmade beads, primitively stitched circles and couching. You will use a mixture of handsitching and machine stitching - there is even some glueing involved! In the end you will have a really unique wallhanging
Next week we have a class with Anna Williams

Anna will teach you how to take your own photo and make it up in fabric - Anna has taught her very popular class Shaded Faces all over New Zealand and Australia - this class is taking the technique to a more personal level. You can use a photo of your favouite person- or pet - for this class.
We will provide morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
Fee - $100 for the weekend

Pink Poppy Perfection
We have made up this quilt using a gorgeous Poppy print from Michael Miller some great spotted fabric from Japan and giant chocolate brown ric rac. The poppies have been embellished with free motion zig zag using a new thick thread from Wonderfil threads called Spaghetti.
The kit which contains the fabrics, the ric rac and the Spaghetti thread are $150.00

New pattern from Adreienne Walker
Just Dandy - another dramatic and stunning quilt designed By Adrienne Walker.
The background has been simply quilted with a series of straight lines which gives the quilt great texture. The Dandelion seed heads and the 3D leaves are a real statement.
We are having a class with Adrienne on the 10th June - she will show you how to make the seed heads and the 3D leaves. Class starts at 10.00 and finishes about 4.00. Adrienne is an expert in making flowers and leaves and this is a great chance to learn a really cool skill!

A New Block of the Month designed by Lynette Anderson called Stitched by Me
It's looking great - a great mix of hand stitchery and pieced stars. The really cool thing about this Quilt is that each pattern comes with cute little wooden buttons appropriate to each block -This is a photo of Block 1 - the little wooden buttons are the fish skeleton and the tag"felix" around the cat's neck. . We will start this Block of the Month at the beginning of June - $45.00 per month for seven months
Pohutakawa
This quilt is based on a design by Lauren Francis. We have painted the red fabric to create texture on the pohutakawa flowers and will be adding 3D leaves and couching - this is a Kiwiana inspired wallhanging which is really fun to make.

Garden Tapestry
Colour, colour, texture and more colour! I loved making this quitl and love the way iit looks. This is a combination of nine different fabrics, some are fussy cut and we have just learrt a great way to make nine patches - our latest "new thing"

If you are making your Saturday Sampler........
and you picked up your block first thing on Saturday morning - check your fabric - You may be short of background fabric - if you are, call in and we will give you what you need. If we post you your block or you picked it up after 11.00 you will be fine!!

Dragon Fly with Jacqui Karl
This is one our favourite classes with Jacqui - painting, sewing, burning, making fabric with a great tutor - what an excellent way to spend a weekend. We will give you morning and afternoon tea and lunch.

Winding Ways with Merryn Reid
We love Merryn's classes - she teaches traditional classes and is very generous with the tips and ideas she passes on. She showed our latest "Best thing" we used to make the nine patches in the Garden Tapestry Quilt.
One day class on the 25th June
Fee $70 - we will give you morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
Making Doll Faces with Jill Maas

You will need to bring along three faces, stuffed and ready for painting - you can use the face from any of Jill's patterns, but if you prefer you can use one of the faces that Ji\ll has drawn up for you to use. If you would like the page of faces for the class email us and we will send it to you.

Warm Cosy Flannels
We havet received a range of Warm Cosy Flannels. Liz has just finished piecing this quilt with the darks - there are also light caramel colours ion this range - and we have added one of our favourite fabrics Black Dimpled Minkee. for some of the squares and the border. It feels beautiful and looks luxurious - we are going to back it with flannel and use wool batting inside it. We will tie it rather than machine quilt it - - it will be perfect for snuggling!
