Making it!!
It's what we do! and we love it!
Today is Open Day Friday at The Cloth Shop
Ever since The Cloth Shop opened on the 14 April 1998 we have had Open Day Friday - Every Friday we have Quilters coming in to the shop to work on their own projects, At the moment there are only five of us here, Robin who is in this photo is quilting her McKenna Ryan Quilt called Forest Hollow - we have been doing that as a Block of the Month and she is thrilled to be at this stage. (You can still make this quilt if you would like to as we have two more sets of Blocks
$55.00 per month) Dawn is making (almost finiished)a long time red work project , Jane has designed a Braid quilt in the most beautiful colours and Liz is finishing the Strippers quilt for Saturday Strippers tomorrow.Francie has arrived and she has bought us some Feijoa Loaf for morning tea- yay!!
Saturday Strippers and Saturday Sampler
Tomorrow is Saturday Strippers Day. We would love to see you at The Cloth Shop at 8.30 - we will show you our latest creation using strips. Liz has been sewing our latest quilt - we have called it Log Cabin squares. It is a great pattern - easy and very effective. We have made up kits of customised Log Cabin Rolls - they have all the strips you need to make Log Cabin squares and cost $95.00. We have made up our quilt using deep dark purple and lime and for our block centres we have used a new tangerine pintucked fabric from the Martinique range - the Customised Log Cabin rolls look delicious - good enought to eat! This photo is a sneak preview of one of the Log Cabin Squares. We have made up 36 of these blocks to make up our quilt.
Textured Block of the Month also known as Pillow Talk
Each month at Saturday Strippers we show you how to make the latest Textured Block of the Month. In February and March we made textured blocks we called "Chenilling" and" Smocking" - we made these blocks into two cushions, piped the edges and buttoned the backs and they were the first "Pillow Talk" pattern. In April and May we called our next two textured blocks "Windmills" and " Kunika's Squares" and made them into two cushions with Prairie points on the outside edges and cords for closures at the back - they are in the second pattern of the Pillow Talk series. These patterns are $20.00 each.
The textured block for June is called Corded pintucks and it will be part of the new Pillow Talk pattern we will be releasing in July. Everyone doing the Textured Block of the Month will receive the instructions for Corded pintucks tomorow and we will be doing demos on how to make the blocks during ther day.
Liz is making.............
There is no such thing as an Innocent Cat. This is one of my favourite quilts in the Tall Poppy Range of patterns. I love the naive and quirky look of the cats based on the original drawings by Griet Lombard. I am making a personalised version of this quilt for my daughter Megan, to celebrate her graduation - not quite finished in time for the event as it was in May! Her quilt includes a cat with a mortar board and two cats that look like ours.
The photos shows Liz's version of Kate with a mortar board.
We have the complete pattern of There is no such thing as an Innocent Cat or you can join our Block of the Month programme ($57.00 for the first month and $27.00 for twelve subsequent months) We also have a series of the cushion patterns featuring different cats than those that are on the large pattern. There are two cats in each pattern and they are $20.00 each. Kits for each cat are $25.00 each. Watch out for the last two cats - we will be making them up in the next week or so.
Katherine loves this fabulous fabric
We made this quilt called A is for Adorable several years ago from a fabric called Minkee. It is a cot sized quilt made in pretty soft pastels - pink, lemon, blue, green and lavender - and we bound it with a satin ribbon. Unfortunately we have not been able to buy Minkee for some time and our lovely little quilt was banished to the pile of "we might use that again one day" quilts. When I was in Houston at Quilt Market last year I was thrilled to see a whole Booth of this luxurious fabric - the walls were covered in it, there were bolts of ikt everywhere - we even walked on it. The name has changed to Cuddle - it is still silky soft and beautiful and A is Adorable is out in full view again. We have printed the patterns again, and packaged up kits. We have the smooth velour $33.00 per
metre and the bubbly velour $43.00 in stock. The Cuiddly is 150cms wide.
Patterns are $20.00 and Kits are $100.00
